The annual Highland Business Women Awards celebrate the success that is taking place within a diverse business community operating in the Highlands. They are designed to recognise the significant contribution women make to all types of businesses and organisations in the area as well as their overall contribution to the wider economy.

The Highland Business Women Awards will recognise those individuals and organisations who go above and beyond, who are innovative in approach, who value their staff, are successful and who make a significant contribution to the economy of the Highlands.

The awards are open to all members of Highland Business Women, provided they fulfil the eligibility criteria.

2019 HBW Awards

Applications are open for the Highland Business Women Awards for 2019. The Application Pack includes Application Guidance and the Application Form.  Both documents can be downloaded from the downloads section on this page.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is 23:59 on Monday 11 February 2019.

The award categories and judging criteria for 2019 are:

New Business of the Year – Sponsored by Business Gateway

  • Originality of business idea
  • Sound business model and future potential
  • Promising marketing and business development strategy
  • Financial performance (including summary of turnover over the trading period to date), approach to tackling and overcoming early challenges and minimising risks.

Most Enterprising Business – Sponsored by Highlands and Islands Enterprise

  • Innovation and creativity in developing a new product, service or process or growing the existing business
  • Effective marketing and business development strategy
  • Approach to leadership and management
  • Success and achievements in their field over the year
  • Sustained business financial performance.

Excellence in Community Engagement

  • Level of commitment to social responsibility activities  
  • Impact of community engagement on your staff
  • Impact of community engagement on the local community
  • Demonstration of alignment of community engagement with organisational aims and objectives.

Business Woman of the Year

  • Demonstrable impact on business performance
  • Drive, determination and entrepreneurship

  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • Focus on continuous improvement, personal and professional development.

Team of the year

  • Successful delivery of a project or initiative
  • Effective working relationships and team work

Best Third Sector Organisation

Shining Star Award for Most Inspiring Woman in Business

The finalists and winners will be celebrated at a fabulous awards dinner at the MacDonald Drummossie Hotel on Friday 15 March 2019, commencing at 6.30pm with a drinks reception.

  • Our MC this year is Nicola McAlley, STV news reporter
  • Our guest speaker is Eve Poole, author, speaker and pioneer of the leadersmithing movement
  • Following dinner and the awards ceremony the entertainment and dancing will be led by Dark Horse
  • Dress code is Black Tie/Highland Dress and Evening/Cocktail dresses.
